Basis for diarrhea treatment – hydration
Basis for diarrhea treatment – hydration
Hydration is not a complementary activity, it is the first and most important method of treatment.
Diarrhea and vomiting in any case carry the risk of dehydration – a condition that threatens the health and life of the child. Its cause is a decrease in the level of water and electrolytes in the body, which leads to:
- increase in blood sodium levels,
- cell dehydration,
- increase in pressure,
- disturbances in the work of internal systems,
- weakness of the body,
And in extreme situations:
- loss of consciousness,
- coma,
- and even death.
The younger the child, the greater the risk of dehydration. Due to intensive metabolism, less fluid reserves and a larger proportion of body surface area to volume, excessive fluid loss in children can progress extremely quickly. The basis for dealing with diarrhea and vomiting is to supplement the lost substances, which enables irrigation of ORT – oral rehydration theraphy*.
It is a special preparation containing – in addition to water – glucose and electrolytes. It uses the most effective mechanism of joint absorption of water, sodium and glucose, in accordance with the recommendations of ESPGHAN – the European Society of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Child Nutrition, which makes it well absorbed by the children’s body. Instantly improves the condition of the weakened toddler and prevents dehydration. This is important because only a properly hydrated organism can cope with symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea.
